Available in both print and downloadable PDF format, this project includes pattern pieces and step-by-step photo instructions for creating a fleece hat featuring an owl or penguin design, with the option of creating just a basic hat. The sample design includes ear flaps to represent each bird's wings, which can be left off for a different look. Facial features are created using machine-appliqued felt pieces, with the option of adding additional ribbon, trim or other embellishments for a truly customized look.
Pattern pieces for all variations are provided in sizes to fit both 18-inch dolls and children with an average head circumference of 20 inches. This beginner-level pattern goes together quickly, making it great for stocking stuffers and other gift-giving occasions!
BASIC HAT:
• 1/6 yard (doll) or 1/4 yard (kids) stretch fleece (not suitable for fleece that does not stretch)
• 1/6 yard (doll) or 1/4 yard (kids) contrasting stretch fleece (optional)
• Thread
OWL HAT:
• 1/6 yard (doll) or 1/4 yard (kids) stretch fleece – gray or brown
• 1/6 yard (doll) or 1/4 yard (kids) contrasting stretch fleece (any color)
• Felt scraps – white, black, orange
• Thread – to match fleece plus white, black, orange
• Two tiny elastic bands
• Narrow ribbon or other trim (for ears)
PENGUIN HAT:
• 1/6 yard (doll) or 1/4 yard (kids) stretch fleece – black or dark gray
• 1/6 yard (doll) or 1/4 yard (kids) contrasting stretch fleece (any color)
• Felt scraps – white, black, orange
• Thread – to match fleece plus white, black, orange
• Buttons, trim or other embellishments (optional)
